The Costa del Sol is a region in southern Spain that spans along the Mediterranean coast. It is an area that is renowned for its beautiful beaches, charming towns, delicious cuisine, and of course, its world-class golf courses. With over 70 courses scattered throughout the area, it has truly confirmed itself as one of the best golfing destinations in the world.

The region’s love affair with golf dates back to 1925 when the first golf course was built at what is now the Parador del Golf in Malaga. Since then, the area has evolved into a golfing Mecca that attracts players from all over the world. With so many to choose from, the Costa del Sol has a diverse range of courses catering to golfers of all abilities, from beginners to seasoned professionals.

The courses themselves are not the only attraction for golf enthusiasts. The backdrop to the beautiful fairways is invariably spectacular, with many offering views of the sparkling Mediterranean Sea or the rolling hills and picturesque countryside. In fact, it is not uncommon to see golfers stopping mid-game to take in the stunning scenery that surrounds them!

Exclusive location for prestigious golf event
One of the most exclusive and prestigious clubs in the area is the Real Club de Valderrama Golf Course in chic Sotogrande. A luxury resort and residential development, Sotogrande is known for its stunning marina, and as the hub for European Polo enthusiasts. The annual tournament held here at the Santa Maria Polo Club makes it one of the top Polo destinations in the world. It is an area also known for high-end luxury properties, with several exclusive urbanisations featuring state-of-the-art villas and apartments set in beautifully maintained gardens.

The course at Valderrama is known for its demanding course that requires skill and concentration on what can at times prove to be tricky terrain. It has played host and has hosted some of the world’s top golf events, including the Ryder Cup and the Volvo Masters. The immaculately manicured course is a favourite among professional golfers and is regarded as one of the most challenging courses in Europe, earning it the nickname of ‘Europe’s Augusta’.

A newcomer to the golfing pantheon
The Liv Tour is a relatively new addition to the world of golf, but it has already attracted some of the best players in the world. This professional tour features events across various countries, with players competing for lucrative prizes and ranking points. Valderrama has signed up to host the tour for a total of five years, a testament to the course’s reputation and appeal.

The Liv Tour’s arrival in the Costa del Sol is an exciting development for golf fans in the region. The event is expected to draw crowds from the local area and further afield, and they will not be disappointed by the spectacular location. The event will provide an excellent opportunity for golf enthusiasts to see some of the world’s top players in action while taking in the breathtaking scenery that the Costa del Sol has to offer.

Taking place over the weekend of 30 June – 2 July, visitors will be able to participate and spectate in their favourite sport while enjoying all that this stunning area has to offer. Sotogrande is one of the jewels in the crown of the beautiful region of the Costa del Sol. Set in the rolling hills of Andalucía, the Valderrama course has been expertly designed to both challenge and delight players, but also to show off the breathtaking Mediterranean coastline and the pine-covered backdrop where it is located.
