There are many reasons why Marbella has, over the past sixty years, become one of the foremost lifestyle destinations in the world. Key is the climate, followed by a magnificent setting between the Mediterranean Sea, mountain ranges and green valleys – with the blend of Andalusian culture and stylish cosmopolitan vibe topping it off.

Add sandy beaches, rich cultural and gastronomic traditions, and luxury leisure and sports facilities, and you’ve almost explained why this region is so beloved among high net worth people from around the world. It all amounts to a relaxed ambience and a superlative quality of life, but of course Marbella and the Costa del Sol don’t exist in a vacuum, but also benefit from a world of additional experiences to enjoy within a short distance.

A seaside sun and ski destination
Drive a short distance into the countryside and you are surrounded by nature imbued with Andalucía’s distinctly rich cultural heritage. This includes pretty white mountain villages and historic country towns such as Ronda set within a world of mountains, green valleys, cascading rivers and lush farmland, as well as extensive nature reserves. Venture a little further and you can choose from fascinating gems to visit such as Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Jerez and Cadiz, with the museums, shopping streets, architecture, culture, beaches, restaurants and nightlife of Málaga just on your doorstep.

Málaga is around 45 minutes away from Marbella, as is the British exclave of Gibraltar, but within a little over an hour you can be among the beautiful dunes and Atlantic waves of Europe’s kite-surf capital, Tarifa – a clear summer favourite with its hippie chic ambience – while in winter the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are a little more than two hours away. Here, the ski resort is among the only ones open in Europe right now, and its five-star deluxe resort hotel, The Lodge, ranks among the finest, most atmospheric ski hotels you could wish for.

From stylish beachside ambience to après-ski chic in the mountains above Granada, it’s a wealth of lifestyle choices that is hard to equal in Europe, or anywhere else. Contact us to find out why people choose to own a second home in Marbella.
