There are many reasons why Marbella has, over the past sixty years, become one of the foremost lifestyle destinations in the world. Key is the climate, followed by a magnificent setting between the Mediterranean Sea, mountain ranges and green valleys – with the blend of Andalusian culture and stylish cosmopolitan vibe topping it off.

It’s fair to say that most of us are indeed looking forward to 2021, and ready to look back at a year that will go down in history as one of the strangest ever. 2020 will not be remembered fondly by most people around the world, having brought us a virus and accompanying restrictions that have had a profound impact on the economy and society, in Marbella as elsewhere, but it was also a year that allowed us to slow down, take stock and perhaps appreciate the more important things in life.

With so much of the focus on Marbella, its equally enticing neighbours are occasionally overlooked. One of the most appealing is Mijas, a large municipal area that straddles much of the coastal and hillside area between Marbella and Fuengirola. In so doing, Mijas Costa occupies some of the prettiest sections of the Costa del Sol shoreline, dotted with inviting coves, sandy beaches and lively villages such as La Cala de Mijas.

No-one enjoys the prospect of enforced confinement and restricted freedom of movement, but if you do have to spend more time at home during this Covid pandemic then the Costa del Sol, and Marbella in particular, is just about the best place to be.

For many years, townhouses have been overlooked in the Marbella area, overshadowed by beachfront penthouses, frontline golf apartments and of course luxurious villas—but now they’re making a strong comeback as buyers realise these stylish properties offer space, comfort and privacy in a way that blends elements of both apartments and villas.

Traditionally in real estate, it is the vendor, not the buyer, that is the agent’s client. The homeowner is therefore the party that instructs the property broker to market, promote and sell his or her property. This relationship, or partnership in the selling of the house, is predicated upon a close relationship between vendor and real estate agent, and this usually is built upon exclusivity – i.e. giving your property for sale with a single agency that has the sole right to market it.
