Perhaps one of the most important decisions a parent can make is choosing an educational establishment for your child. They will attend school for almost the whole of their childhood and into early adulthood, so it is no mean feat to select somewhere where they will thrive and be happy.

Luckily we are blessed in Marbella with a wide range of educational options, both private and state. If you are fortunate enough to have a respected state school locally as well as children who are happy to be taught in Spanish, this presents an ideal state of affairs and is also decidedly economically advantageous.
If a private education is decided upon, there are three curricula available: English (GCSE’s and A levels/ International Baccalaureate (IB)); Spanish (the Bachillerato) or a bilingual school that offers a choice of both. Additionally, there are also German, French and Swedish educational systems available here.

Swans International School
This English curriculum school is a popular choice among the expat British community as well as Spanish and other nationalities who desire their children to grow up fluent in English. Since its inception in the 1970’s, this Sierra Blanca-based school has gained a good reputation both for educational standards and bringing forth fully-rounded children.

Laude School
Recently named as one of the best schools in Spain by El Mundo newspaper, Laude accepts children from four years old until completion of their schooling with either A levels or the Spanish equivalent Bachillerato. Housed in relatively new premises in the heart of San Pedro Alcántara, this school benefits from great facilities for education, sports and arts.

Aloha College
One of the most prestigious schools in the area, Aloha College is to be found in Nueva Andalucía and offers an English education system for the international community. The school has grown from 270 pupils thirty years ago to now accepting 840 pupils in a facility that covers 27,000 square metres of schools rooms and sports facilities.

Colegio Atalaya
A newcomer to the educational offering, this bilingual Spanish/English school teaches children from three years old up to their final year when they sit the Spanish Bachillerato, with a recent announcement that the IB will also be offered in the near future. The almost-new facilities are purpose-built, with great sports facilities, home-cooked food in the school cafeteria and high-tech classrooms.

European Schools
The Deutsche School, Lycée Française and Swedish School add further options and are also renowned for the quality of their teaching staff and curricula.
