It can hardly have escaped anyone’s attention that temperatures are soaring and not set to cool down for the foreseeable future. So, we thought we’d take this opportunity to offer some tips and hints on how to enjoy Marbella in the heat of summer. Obviously, the most important advice is to stay well-hydrated, avoid the fiercest intensity of the midday to late-afternoon sun and always wear sunscreen! Other than these tips, what else is there to do to keep cool in Marbella? Read on to find out.

1. Marbella is blessed with a coastline of long, sandy beaches and now is the perfect time to take advantage of them, along with the many concessions offering beds and parasols. Prices vary according to whether they belong to a traditional chiringuito (typical beachside restaurant) or one of the many upmarket beach clubs that Marbella boasts, such as Nikki Beach and La Plage Casanis in East Marbella, The Marbella Club and El Chiringuito on the Golden Mile and in Estepona, trendsetters head for Beso Beach and Nido. Cooling down on Balinese-style beds or under fresh linen shades with a cocktail in hand is possibly the best way to avoid the heat in Marbella!

2. Alternatively, avoid the heat altogether and shop till you drop in the air-conditioned luxury of top designer boutiques in the exclusive yachting marina of Puerto Banús. The upmarket department store El Corte Inglés can also be found in Puerto Banús and with a host of couture brands, coffee shops and gourmet restaurants, you could easily spend a happy few hours in the cool without stepping foot outside once.

3. If shopping isn’t your scene and adventure in the mountains sounds more appealing, there are several companies who will take you zooming through the stunning countryside on quad bikes or try ‘canyoning’ – wading, jumping, abseiling and swimming through the rivers that flow in the hills closr to Benahavís village. An exciting day trip out is just the thing to avoid the baking temperatures, especially if you spend it submerged in cool river waters.

4. Water sports are a great pastime whatever the weather, but when temperatures soar, little beats taking to the sea. Luckily, Marbella boasts an extensive array of water sports. People of all ages can indulge in the fun, with inflatables stationed in the sea near the beaches of Puerto Banús and other coastal spots providing an ideal playground for children and teenagers. Additionally, pedaloes, banana boats and paddle boards can be rented to enjoy the coastal waters. Adrenaline enthusiasts will not be disappointed either, as jet skis are available for hire and kite-surfing becomes an exhilarating option on windier days. For those seeking a truly unique adventure, there’s even the opportunity to try futuristic fly-boarding.

5. One activity that is lovely throughout the year is a stroll on the Paseo Maritimo, the beach promenade that hugs the shoreline and spans almost the whole of the Andalucian coast. As the evening advances, more people can be found enjoying the open air and, with any luck, a fresher breeze that wafts from the sea. The paseo varies in character according to its location. The stretch that encompasses the town of Estepona is a lovely spot for families, thanks to the playparks and stalls selling all kinds of wares dotted along its length, while Marbella is lively and a perfect spot for a sundowner and/ or dinner.
